IBM and Canonical: This Is Just The Beginning

The partnership between Canonical and IBM continues to thrive. As we embark on the era of Containerization, Cloud, NFV, IoT, and Machine Learning, companies like IBM are innovating to meet the demands of modern computing.

We caught up with IBM’s GM of Power Systems, Doug Balog, at OpenStack Summit Austin to get his thoughts about openness and the paradigm shift in hardware that is unfolding as Moore’s Law reaches its sunset. In addition to illustrating the industry trends that are driving businesses towards large, cloud-based solutions for big data and cognitive analytics, Doug describes how collaborative development efforts like open source software and OpenPOWER are redefining how next-gen business applications are designed and deployed.

We refer to this era as the era of Big Software. Please listen to Doug as he explains what’s happening from his front-row seat. We think you’ll enjoy what he has to say.

With Certified Ubuntu images now available on Softlayer and top-tier Canonical support via Ubuntu Advantage, there’s never been a better time to discover the possibilities of Ubuntu on POWER8. To celebrate this news, we’re collaborating with Softlayer to offer a 30-day free trial to new and existing customers. Ready to try Ubuntu on POWER8 for free? Click here to get started.

To participate in this ecosystem that truly exemplifies “open”—across not only operating systems, and software, but also hardware; we also invite you to participate in the OpenPOWER Developer Challenge. Be part of the future, and win prizes too!
