Canonical
on 26 May 2006

In an exclusive arrangement with Canonical Ltd. for the German-speaking market, Open Source Press GmbH, the Munich-based publishing company will release their official Ubuntu Box Set in early June 2006.

This official box-set will be based on Ubuntu’s fourth release, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS (long-term support) that is scheduled for release on June 1, 2006. Dr. Wirtz, CEO of Open Source Press, noted that the launch of the Ubuntu Box Set is a reflection of increasing consumer demand for Linux-based operating system software products. Dr Wirtz commented that “Ubuntu continues to be one of the most popular Linux distributions, and one that will lead the broader adoption of Linux and open source software, as it provides end-users with a fully- functional, easy-to-use desktop environment.” The Ubuntu box set will be sold in book stores with a recommended price of EUR 49.95, and will include:

  • 4 DVDs (Ubuntu and Kubuntu, both for Intel x86 and AMD64 architectures)
  • a 300 page manual in German
  • free e-mail installation support
  • many extras including a trial version of “Moneyplex,” a home-banking software, a
  • personal e-GroupWare Account, and an Ubuntu T-shirt
