Canonical completes Azure Arc Validation Program, helps increase user confidence in Arc enabled production Kubernetes

Microsoft Azure has just announced the details of its new Azure Arc Validation Program, aiming to further increase customer confidence in deploying Arc enabled Kubernetes in production workloads, and at scale. Canonical is one of the Kubernetes distribution providers to participate in the program, by completing conformance tests for one of its two K8s distributions – Charmed Kubernetes 1.19 – with Azure Arc and various management extensions, as we approach general availability of Azure Arc enabled Kubernetes later this week.

Charmed Kubernetes is a well integrated, turn-key, conformant Kubernetes platform, optimised for your multi-cloud environments. It provides users with a standardised workflow to develop, test and promote their cloud native apps up to production environments. Charmed Kubernetes also guarantees the latest Kubernetes features are available to developers through automatic updates.

Canonical announced the integration of its CNCF certified Charmed Kubernetes with Microsoft Azure Arc in May 2020. The integration provides businesses with a centralised place to manage their Kubernetes clusters and deploy their applications at scale, from cloud to the edge. The Azure Arc dashboard enables management and governance of any Kubernetes, across any substrate. These capabilities are combined with Charmed Kubernetes’ full lifecycle automation tooling to drastically simplify multi-cloud deployments and operations traceability with GitOps. This integration builds on the existing relationship between Microsoft and Canonical with Ubuntu already the default OS for Azure VMs and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).

To further solidify this relationship, engineers of Canonical’s Charmed Kubernetes distribution went through thorough interoperability and compatibility tests ,working closely with the Azure Arc team. Testing included numerous scenarios – indicatively, that connections to Azure, identity attributes, resource metadata representations, configuration and log management meet certain standards at all times.

Through the program, Canonical also committed to validate any future versions of Charmed Kubernetes with Azure Arc, to give users of Charmed Kubernetes on Azure Arc confidence about the stability of their future projects.

Charmed Kubernetes can be deployed on any infrastructure, from bare metal, to private and public cloud. Try it yourself for free.
