BQ Aquaris Ubuntu Edition phones land in Russia


  • The BQ Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition and shortly the E4.5 Ubuntu Edition to be sold in Russia through through a host of local Russian distributors
  • Phones will come preloaded with a number of scopes specifically developed for the Russian market including big name draws like VKontakte, Yandex, Mail.Ru and Kinopoisk

After previous successful launches of the Aquaris E4.5 and E5 HD Ubuntu Editions, BQ will now release Ubuntu Phones in Russia. Devices will be available for purchase through a host of local distributors such as Ozon.ru. The Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition will be sold at a price of 15,499 ‎₽ with the soon to be launched Aquaris E4.5 at a price of 12,499.

Russia continues to be an important market for Ubuntu with a strong and fervid fan-base and developer community. Demand has also increased in the region since the initial launch of the devices back in February this year.

The 8GB Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition features a five megapixel front camera and eight megapixel rear camera with autofocus, dual flash and full HD (1080p) for super sharp video. It boasts a MediaTek Quad Core Cortex A7 processor and 1GB RAM for a faster experience.

The Aquaris E5 Ubuntu Edition comes with a host of impressive features including a 5’’ display with IPS HD technology, HD screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and 380 cd/m2 maximum brightness. The device features a five megapixel front camera and thirteen megapixel rear camera, equipped with high quality Largan lenses and BSI sensors. Both devices will be sold in black and come fully unlocked with dual SIM functionality so that users can select their operator of choice and can use SIMs from two different operators at the same time.

The devices come with the same great Scopes currently available but some additional ones have been added to appeal to Russian consumers. Some of the new local scopes that provide an enriched local experience include VKontakte, Yandex, Mail.Ru and Kinopoisk and many others.

The BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition is now available for purchase from Ozon.ru for 15,499. Both Aquaris Ubuntu Edition phones will be available from BQ’s Russian online store early next year.
