The wait is finally over, and IBM POWER machines are now [available](http://www-03.ibm.com/press/us/en/pressrelease/44123.wss) to the general public. So what does this mean for Ubuntu users? First of all, the same exact qualities you expect of Ubuntu [Server](http://ubuntu.com/server) and [Cloud](http://ubuntu.com/cloud) are now available on POWER8. The entire archive has been ported to POWER8, which means that the tools and packages you have learned are immediately available. You can find [images](http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/14.04/release) for Ubuntu for POWER8 alongside our other supported platforms. Bringing Ubuntu to POWER8 was only the first step; the strength and breadth of our partner ecosystem is one of the reasons that make Ubuntu so appealing to a wide range of users. And everything in that ecosystem is now available on POWER8: * [MAAS](https://maas.ubuntu.com/) support for PowerKVM to allow you to build your own bare metal clusters. Support for BMC autodiscovery and configuration is currently in progress. * [OpenStack Icehouse](http://www.openstack.org/software/icehouse/) support. * Fully manage POWER8 instances from within your existing [Landscape](https://landscape.canonical.com/) deployment. * Dedicated resources for developers to build on POWER, including Launchpad PPA builder support for software projects that want to build on POWER. And of course, the [Juju Charm Store](https://jujucharms.com/), which will let you deploy workloads and clusters right onto the metal for real big data solutions.
