**Weekly status for the week of the 25th of September to the 1st of October 2017.**

# Introduction

This past week the entire LXD team was working together in New York city.

We used this opportunity to talk about our next round of LTS releases, LXC 3.0, LXD 3.0 and LXCFS 3.0, all to be released early next year. What kind of breaking changes we may want to do at that time and how we expect support to work for them.

As this was a shared even with many other teams and projects, we also spent a good amount of time talking about the LXD snap with the snapd and snapcraft people and working on improving our support for LXD on other distributions.

As far as progress on LXC and LXD themselves, we’ve added automatic testing for LXD on Elementary, fixed a large number of storage related issues and been merging some LXC changes that will help downstream projects integrate liblxc with OCI images and CNI networking.

# Upstream changes

The items listed below are highlights of the work which happened upstream over the past week and which will be included in the next release.

## LXD

* Rewrote most of the “lxd import” code to be [more consistent and reliable](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3828).
* Added a workaround for a [recent btrfs-progs regression](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3846).
* Added volume [tests for btrfs and Ceph](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3847).
* Improved the [filesystem resizing code](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3850).
* Reworked the [storage volume property handling](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3853).
* Fixed [incremental stateless migration](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3862).
* Fixed [Go dependency check](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3868).
* Fixed a regression in [“lxc image export” generated filenames](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3870).
* Fixed rsync to [ignore vanished file warnings](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3872).
* Updated the image documentation to [list supported image types](https://github.com/lxc/lxd/pull/3881).

## LXC

* Added a new [pre-start hook, to be used for application containers](https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/1826).
* Fixed an issue in the cgfsng driver when [running with an uninitialized configuration](https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/1833).
* Fixed [handling of namespace fds during container startup](https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/1835).
* Added support for [sharing of the container PID namespace](https://github.com/lxc/lxc/pull/1836).

## LXCFS

* Nothing to report

# Distribution work

This section is used to track the work done in downstream Linux distributions to ship the latest LXC, LXD and LXCFS as well as work to get various software to work properly inside containers.

## Ubuntu

* [LXD 2.18-0ubuntu3](https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxd/2.18-0ubuntu3) was uploaded to the Ubuntu 17.10 archive, improving the LXD user-agent string to report architecture and kernel information to the image servers.
* Backported LXD 2.18 to xenial-backports.
* Backported LXD 2.18 to zesty-backports.

## Snap

* Added initial SELinux support (liblxc1 is now linked against libselinux)
* Updated the AppArmor override to match the LXC 2.1 syntax
* Updated the “lxc” wrapper to allow access to allow filesystem paths
